Australia's first Early Years Strategy launched

17/06/2024

CCCH welcomes the release of Australia’s first Early Years Strategy and the opportunity it brings for multiple sectors to work together to improve outcomes for children. Having a national strategy will help ensure that we’re all working together towards the common goal that all children are safe, nurtured and have their basic needs met; are able to learn and play; and that families and communities are empowered.

CCCH is proud to have contributed to the strategy development in 2023. Five CCCH team members attending the Early Years Roundtable and two submissions were provided to the discussion paper and draft strategy. CCCH Director, Professor Sharon Goldfeld AM, also provided expert guidance as a member of the Early Years Strategy Advisory Panel.

“It was an honour to be part of the group that had informed the development of this important strategy. The strategy is another step on the journey in shining a light on the importance and opportunity for more equitable early years for Australian children.” - Prof Sharon Goldfeld AM

The vision of the Strategy strongly aligns with CCCH’s vision that “every child thrives”. We look forward to working with Governments and the broader sector to see this vision become a reality.

Child and Family Hubs – a key recommendation of the Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee

CCCH is thrilled to see our work in Integrated Child and Family Hubs, in partnership with Social Ventures Australia, included in the recent Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee report to the Australian Government. The Committee recommends the wider scale delivery of integrated child and family centres and holistic “full service” school models implemented in communities of highest need, as priority actions of the Early Years Strategy.

We welcome the Committee’s sub-recommendations to create a national framework for child and family centres; for the Government to accept ongoing stewardship of the network of centres with states and territories; and to advance place-based approaches in priority communities.

Our National Child and Family Hubs Network is currently developing its Strategic Plan and exploring how best to support the Early Years Strategy and the Committee’s recommendations.
