Clinical care and screening
In addition to our broader work in community health, the Centre has specialist paediatric outpatient clinics with expertise in assessment and management of early childhood developmental and behavioural issues, as well as sleep and settling, and bowel problems.
With a commitment to equity, we prioritise access for the most vulnerable children, such as children in out of home care and those experiencing other significant psychosocial adversity.
The Centre also delivers the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP).

- Behaviour problems and developmental delay including language, motor skills and emotional regulation
- Autism Spectrum Disorders and other social and communication disorders
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other executive function difficulties
- Unsettled babies and sleep problems
- Learning difficulties and school problems
- Bowel dysfunction.

For paediatric trainee doctors, our 12-month fellowship provides strong clinical and theoretical training in developmental-behavioural paediatrics, essential for Advanced Paediatric Trainees who plan to specialise in community child health or to work as consultant general paediatricians.
For community paediatricians, we hold an annual program consisting of 4 workshops with a focus on practical skills in developmental-behavioural paediatrics. Our workshops feature multidisciplinary and cross professional speakers, with presentations based on real cases and active participation of those attending.
The Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program screens newborn babies in their first weeks of life. Early detection and intervention improves outcomes for babies with hearing loss. VIHSP screens in public and private, metropolitan and regional maternity services across Victoria. VIHSP Early Support Services support families through the process of diagnosis and intervention if their baby requires further testing at audiology.

Since 2013, the Pathway to Good Health Clinic has provided health assessments for children and young people who have entered a foster, kinship or residential placement. The team includes a paediatric doctor, clinical psychologist and a speech pathologist. Together we identify health needs and create a health management plan to address those needs.
