Generation Australia begins with key partnership
27/03/2025
GenV (short for Generation Victoria), has welcomed almost 50,000 children and their parents into this landmark study. Led from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, GenV aims to find better prediction, prevention and treatment of the complex health and social problems facing families.
With equity and inclusion at its heart, GenV includes participants who are often excluded from research. This includes those who live regionally, from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and from all family structures. By representing a diverse range of Australian communities, findings will be applicable to more families across the country.
GenV has recently partnered with ORIGINS, who are following 10,000 children and their families in WA, to spearhead Generation Australia. Both GenV and ORIGINS are designed to follow up families and test interventions. Together, they add value by unlocking the full potential of Australia’s largest cohorts to find solutions to complex physical and mental health issues such as asthma, food allergies, obesity, and anxiety faster than we can today. In the future, smaller cohorts in other Australian states can join Generation Australia to realise the full power of these diverse studies.
The more families that join GenV along the way, the more powerful the findings can be. It’s not too late to join. GenV continues to welcome new participants. All families living in Victoria with a child born between 4 October 2021 – 3 October 2023 can join. The invitation is still open to families who have not already signed up, have moved into the state or have changed their mind. Families can join through visiting GenV’s website.
